#31 : #Focus on What you have
Focus
on What you have, not what you don’t have. I want to illustrate this with a story.
Karoly
Takacs was the 1st Shooter to win Two Olympic gold Medals in the Rapid-fire
pistol Event. He was an army man and always wanted to participate in Olympics,
he was denied in the 1936 Summer Olympics as he was a Sergeant and only commissioned
officers only could compete.
Later
this prohibition was lifted and was scheduled to participate in the 1940 Tokyo Summer
Olympic game. Everyone vouched that he would bring the medal to the country. Unfortunately,
during Army training in 1938, his right hand was badly injured with a faulty grenade
exploded on his arm. Takacs
spent a month in the hospital, devastated not just for the loss of his right
hand but also the opportunity to win Gold at the highest level of the sport.
But he was determined to compete it, he started to practice with his left hand
and in a year, he won the 1939 National event and was on the way towards the Olympics.
Hard Choices are not curse but GOD Send.
Unfortunately,
in 1940 and 1944 both Olympic games were cancelled due to World War II which
made his wait longer and eagerness stronger. He was disappointed as this was
his dream, he never reduced the intensity or passion towards his goal. He was
so determined that he kept practicing. He didn’t Join the easy crowd; he went where
the expectations & the demands to perform were high. He had a big Obstacle
in front of him, he didn’t RUN away, He just embraced it and moved forward. He
wanted to do things with what he had not what he doesn’t have.
In 1948 Summer, Olympics, he went to the arena
and when other shooters saw that Karoly Takacs had arrived, they consoled him
for his loss and mentioned they were happy to see him show up to view the event.
To everyone’s surprise, Takacs said he was there not to spectate but participate.
His main competition approached Takacs
before the event and asked him what he was doing there as he knew about his accident.
he replied that he was there to learn, setting the world record. He WON GOLD medal in Summer Olympics in London
beating the favourites.
He
later went on winning his 2nd GOLD in the same event in 1952 in
Helsinki. He Emphasized on assets, not deficits. Growth happens when we build
up from a place of possibility does not tear down from the place of pessimism.
He went ahead and killed the excuses. Only thing standing between you and your
goals are a bullshit story of why you cannot do it. He never blamed
circumstances as he knew your body does what your mind believes. He believed
and he delivered.
Yet another inspiring story to give my best at whatever comes my way..!! 🤩 Thank you..👏👏
