#11 : Parrot and Couple
"Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen
with the intent to reply." Stephen R. Covey.
Seek
not to be understood, but to understand. "When you talk, you are only
repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something
new".
I
want to emphasize this through the small story. There was a parrot in the house of a couple, who
were very religious and use to daily visit temple and attend the discourses of
the Gurus. They were very regular in going and listening to them asking and
getting their quires resolved. One day Parrot asked them if they would do them
a favor and ask a question for him. The couple obliged and asked him what question
he wanted to check with Guruji? He replied
if they can ask him "when he will be released from Cage? "
The
couple asked the same question to Guru, but
Saint there, after listening to
the question fainted, but later he recovered. When the couple went home, Parrot
asked what happened, they said you are bad Omen, and told the incident what
happened.
Next
day couple again went to temple, and when they came back they saw that Parrot
is dead, so with sadness, they opened the Cage, and immediately Parrot woke up
and flew. Next day saint asked what happened to their Parrot, the couple
replied that how Parrot ditched them. Saint explained that see whatever I talk
and preach and give Sermons, you all listen and don't assimilate, but see
Parrot understood my indication and now he is a free bird.
Same is the case to all of us we listen to a lot
of things, but we don't take pause and try to assimilate things which we
accumulated. We are swamped in just taking and taking, as said give a little
pause and incorporate and start giving to balance it out.
