#19 : From Vivad towards Samvaad (Ways for Better conversations )

From Vivad towards Samvaad (Ways for Better conversations )

1.     We are not listening to each other. As Steven Covey said, we need to listen to understand.  We don't have a balance between talking and listening. Some people prefer one or other, which causes an imbalance in two people conversation. Don't listen to reply, listen to Understand and later discuss.

2.     We now prefer more texting than conversations and face to face interactions. Human interaction missing or avoided nowadays.

3.     We should NOT multitask while having a conversation with anyone. Be present in the situation and focus.

4.     Listen without any judgement, listen to understand as said in 1st point. As soon as we start listening, we judge based on our unconscious biases.

5.     Avoid argument, have Discussion two way. Move from Vivaad to ( argument ) to Samvaad (Discussion). In Discussion, it has to be a balanced approach of speaking and listening by both parties.

6.     Try to use Open-ended Questions.

7.     Go with the flow.

8.     Don't try to impress, Express.

9.     If you don't know something, say so, don't beat around the bush.

10. Try not to repeat yourself.

11. Stay out of weeds; people are not interested in details or don't care of same. Don't go round and round on the same thing. Be Brief.

12. Be genuinely interested in other people. The person can feel the same, by your reaction or responses.

13. If you keep your mouth Shut and mid-Open, you will be Amazed to see outcomes.
